From an old industrial area to modern living
Before Västra Hamnen, there was only the sea. Then the sound of the shipyard grew louder and louder as the Kockums shipyard in Malmö expanded. Hard work, precision, and a focus on quality from the shipyard workers blended with the era’s finest engineering; the result was the first-class submarine Svärdfisken, which was launched just as World War I broke out. It was beloved by its crew and would remain in service almost until the start of World War II. The Svärdfisken was followed by a long line of submarines and ships, putting Malmö on the map as a world-class shipbuilding city.
