Q: What is the difference between the apartment hotel and Apartments by The More Hotel??

You can rent rooms at our hotels for up to three months. If you wish to stay for more than three months, we have apartments near all three of our hotels. These so-called Apartments by The More Hotel are available for monthly rental with a minimum stay of three months.

Yes, of course! Check-in is available 24/7 at all three of our hotels. All guests will receive an SMS with check-in instructions on the day of arrival. If you have not received the SMS or would like to receive it earlier, please contact lund@themorehotel.com .

Q: I would like to rent an apartment at the hotel for one month. Can you offer a better price?

You rent on a monthly basis and can choose the level of service you want. For example, weekly cleaning, which can also be done every other week, or just once a month, or why not add an extra breakfast?

Engine sheds converted into a hotel in Lund

At the beginning of the 20th century, beautiful steam locomotives took bathers from Lund to Bjärred for relaxation and recreation. In the locomotive sheds (Lokstallarna) in Lund, the engines were given rest, maintenance, and care after their long working days. Today, you can enjoy relaxation and recreation at the same location with us at The More Hotel. Gone is the steam from the engines, but the thick roof beams and large, multi-paned windows remain, creating an atmosphere of unmatched luxury. This is the story of how the locomotive sheds in Lund became what they are today.

In 1906, the locomotive sheds were built as a crucial part of the operation of the railway line connecting Harlösa, Hardeberga, Lund, and Bjärred. Taking the train to the beach in Bjärred was very popular at a time when health and spa treatments were in vogue. On a Sunday in July 1908, as many as 6,500 bathers could travel from Lund to Bjärred. This placed high demands on the steam locomotives, which needed to be maintained so they could work hard every day.

Over time, interest in bath trips by train declined, and by 1939, the railway service was eventually discontinued. The locomotive sheds began to fall into disrepair. The city of Lund no longer had any interest in them and struggled to find someone who could dedicate the time and care the building needed—care that had once been given to the now-defunct locomotives. Slowly, stone by stone, and window by window, the locomotive sheds lost their vitality. All that remained was a dilapidated shell, slowly crumbling away under the forces of weather and time. Would they eventually be torn down?

On a grey morning in 2008, Peter Dahlqvist, the founder of The More Hotel, stepped through the old locomotive gates. In the building, amidst the devastation—where much of it had been broken and tagged with graffiti—he saw the potential.

Despite the immense need for renovation, Peter Dahlqvist purchased the locomotive sheds and began a careful restoration. The area was excavated, and a stable foundation with a new basement was laid. Stone by stone, the sheds were rebuilt with the original facade, and large windows were added, letting in vast amounts of natural light through the old doors where the steam locomotives once entered. Beautiful iron-framed windows were installed throughout the newly revived building, giving character to every room in the hotel.

Today, when you visit The More Hotel, it may not be immediately obvious the journey the locomotive sheds have gone through. The beautiful rooms are far removed from the original locomotive hangars, once designed to give the engines new strength for the next working day. But when you relax on the sofa with something nice to drink, lean back, and let your gaze drift towards the sky through the large skylights, we at The More Hotel hope you'll feel as well taken care of as the old steam engines once were. A moment of much-needed care and luxury in your everyday life.
